Emergency Medicine Elective Rotations
Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The student rotations are open to all fourth-year medical students at UMMC as well as to all students from accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical schools in the United States wishing to do an externship. At this time, we only accept students from LCME- or AOA-accredited institutions. We are unable to offer rotation availability to foreign- or international medical students.
Our department is dedicated to providing a quality experience for all students. While students in interested in emergency medicine as a career are obviously welcome, we also encourage students not planning on a career in emergency medicine to take advantage of the unique experiences we provide.
The Department of Emergency Medicine offers several fourth-year elective rotations. All electives are 2 weeks or 4 weeks in duration.
Electives
- Emergency Medicine
- Emergency Medicine Research
- Medical Toxicology
- Wilderness Medicine
Visiting students
We welcome students from all accredited allopathic and osteopathic U.S. medical schools. At this time, we only accept students from LCME- or AOA-accredited institutions. If you have a sincere interest in emergency medicine and are interested in learning more about the specialty or more about our program specifically, then we encourage you to arrange an externship position with us. We accept applications exclusively through VSLO, beginning April 1st.
Clinical Diversity Elective Program
The Clinical Diversity Elective Program (CDEP) is a program, which provides up to $2,000 to defray travel and lodging expenses for visiting senior medical students.
